Prize money: £10,000 Artist £5,000 Student Artist
and £2,000 Public On-line Vote
The Organisers of the Celeste Art Prize 2007 are delighted to announce the 30 finalists & 30 student finalists who will exhibit at the Old Truman Brewery from 21 – 27th May 2007. During the exhibition the finalists will have the opportunity to vote for the artist they consider pre-eminent amongst their peers, thus awarding the prize money themselves.
The finalists were selected from a strong selection of 918 submissions, all of which are available to view through the Celeste Art Prize Public On Line Vote. Entries arrived from all over the UK and from UK artists living and working all over the globe.
Excellence in content, aesthetic, technique and material were sought as the selection criteria from works submitted to the prize plus an awareness of the broader context of painting and the media used, whether in traditional format or testing new media in relation to painting.
The Celeste Art Prize would like to thank all the artists who participated and the Goldsmiths MFA Curatorial Programme for their hard work and diligence in selecting the finalists and short listed artists.
This year we are delighted to launch the Public on line vote which will run from the 1st April through to the 20th May. During this period anyone can vote on a one e-mail one-vote basis for the artist of their choice. The winning artist will be awarded their prize at the Award Ceremony in London on Sunday, 27th May.
We are delighted also to announce our media partner is The Times Online and in the run up to the exhibition there will be a series of articles.
Following the London exhibition will be a further exhibition in Edinburgh at the galleries of Lyon & Turnbull, Scotland’s leading auctioneers from the 7th - 13th June 2007.
The Celeste Art Prize would also like to thank the generous sponsorship of Access Industries.
