CELESTE ART PRIZE 2006 - EVENTS

"WINDOWS ON ITALIAN PAINTING"

Location:
EMBASSY OF ITALY - Defence Office Building
7-10 Hobart Place London SW1

Dates : From 23rd August 2005
During the recent refurbishment of the Defence Attaché’s offices three windows on the ground floor looking out onto Hobart Place were discovered.
Realising the possibilities for these windows to literally be windows on Italy and keen to help promote Italian contemporary art, Rear Admiral Cristiano Bettino, Defence Attaché, asked Sara Pearce Fine Art to set up a programme to feature Italian artists in London.
The revolving exhibition programme will promote young Italian artists & also celebrate the many cultural exchanges between the UK and Italy by featuring British artists who have lived & worked in Italy.
The first occupants of the window will be three finalists from the 2004 PremioCeleste: Claudio Spoletini from Rome, Mirka Pretelli from Montecchio (Pesaro) and Tiziano Lucci from Rome.
Spoletini’s Fabbricato in Italia (Made in Italy), Pretelli’s Pericolo (Danger) and Lucci’s Andare ai Resti (The Remains) will hang in Hobart Place from 23rd August - 24th September 05.

Paintings by other finalists from the PremioCeleste 2005 will be exhibited in the following months.
The PremioCeleste was set up to promote painting via a national art prize in Italy. Last year 1,356 artists applied for the Euros 18,000 prize.

Due to the success of the Italian prize it has now been expanded to include the Celeste Art Prize, which will be launched later this September in the UK.

“This is a unique occasion for a group of young Italian artists to exhibit directly in Italian government offices. Their work reflects a rediscovery in recent times of the values of a deeply rooted tradition in Italy: figurative painting. I invite everyone interested in the particular aesthetic blend of colour and form which Italian artists undoubtedly have, to come and visit this selection of works as they unfold over the coming months,”

Steven Music - organizer of PremioCeleste.
